Doctoral thesis
In her doctoral thesis entitled “Alterity Theory of Shame with Levinas, Derrida, and Cixous,” at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Hildesheim, Daniela Langen articulated an understanding of shame as found in alterity theory and, building on this, discussed the meaning of the experience of shame from perspective of alterity theory.
Get to know Daniela
Daniela Langen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of (Social) Ethics. From 2020 to 2024, she was also part of the Dean's Office at the Faculty of Protestant Theology.
She studied Philosopy and Art at the University of Hildesheim and Philosophy at the University of Bonn. In 2026, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis at the University of Hildesheim, entitled “Alterity Theory of Shame in Levinas, Derrida, and Cixous”.
Since 2026, she has been supported by the University of Bonn’s “MeTra” mentoring program, from 2012-2016 she was a fellow of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
After finishing her Master's degree, Daniela started working at an advertising agency and another publishing house. During her Master's studies, she did an internship at Felix Meiner Publishing House, Hamburg.
