Research areas of the Old Testament Department in Bonn are the history of literature and religion as well as exegesis and theology of the Old Testament.

New Testament
In addition to the study of the New Testament and emerging Christianity, its history and literature, the focus is on Ancient Judaism and Greco-Roman Antiquity.

Church History
Traditionally, the main areas of research in church history in Bonn are the history of the Early Church, the Reformation Churches, and the Church in the Rhineland.

Systematic Theology
The Department is broken down into three disciplines: Systematic Theology and Hermeneutics, Systematic Theology/Dogmatics and Ethics, Systematic Theology/Ethics.

Practical Theology and Religious Education
At the Practical Theology Department there are two main research areas – one focusing on Practical Theology, the other Religious Education.

Intercultural Theology
The field of Intercultural Theology includes research on questions and topics relating to the intersections of religion, culture, politics, and global society.
