Barbara Prainsack is Professor of Comparative Policy Analysis at the University of Vienna, where she heads the Contemporary Solidarity Studies research group. She is also an honorary professor at the Centre for Healthy Societies at the University of Sydney.
In addition to her research and teaching activities, Barbara Prainsack is active in numerous advisory bodies: for example, she is chair of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies, which advises the European Commission.
Her latest books on the subject of work were published in 2023 (Wofür Wir Arbeiten, Brandstätter) and 2024 (Arbeit - Care - Grundeinkommen, with M. Appel, Mandelbaum). Her new book, Datenschlussverkauf: Solidarität in der digitalen Welt, will be published by Wagenbach in 2026.
