Rathiulung Elias KC

Rathiulung Elias KC (Thiu) is an Associate Researcher at the Chair of Practical Theology (Prof. Dr. Sabrina Müller), University of Bonn, where Digital Religion forms one of the chair’s key research areas. With a PhD on World Christianity from the University of Edinburgh, his research sits at the intersection of the indigenous thought, digital culture, and contemporary theology, with ethnographic expertise in indigenous Christian communities in Northeast India and developing comparative interests across Highland Asia.

His current work examines how indigenous communities negotiate religious authority, ecological knowledge, and collective identity through digital platforms — a set of questions that existing digital religion frameworks, largely developed in Western secular contexts, have not adequately addressed. This research forms the core of his Indigenous Digital Landscapes (IDL) concept, which contributes to broader inquiry into postdigital conditions of religious life. His collaboration with Prof. Dr. Müller focuses specifically on indigenous onto-epistemologies as generative interlocutors for practical and postdigital theology in global perspective. 

Methodologically, his work is grounded in digital ethnography and qualitative research.
