Successful launch of Lunch Series on “Ethics, AI and Health” Successful launch of Lunch Series

Since March 2023, the Lunch Series has been an integral part of the department's programme. In cooperation with the Collaborative Research Centre EmpkinS and TRA 3 "Life & Health" (University of Bonn), the Social Ethics Group organises the talks on "Ethics, AI and Health". With between 30 and 80 registered participants for each event and numerous renowned international researchers, the Lunch Series had a very successful start.

Once a month, there is the opportunity to enjoy lunch while listening to and discussing with renowned researchers at the intersection of ethics, AI and health.

Mark Gaffley (Research ICT Africa) kicked off the Lunch Series in March with his talk on "Ethical Considerations of AI in Health Care: A Prognosis from Sub-Saharan Africa". Our second guest was Karin Jongsma (Utrecht University), who spoke about the ethics of human-AI collaboration in medicine. In May, Giulia Cavaliere (King's College London) joined us and broadened the range of topics with her talk on abortion and technological development, in particular on ectogestation. In June, Sandra Wachter (University of Oxford) closed the Lunch Series for the summer term and gave us some insights into the creation of new groups by AI, so-called algorithmic groups, and their (non-) protection by anti-discrimination law.

For now, the Lunch Series is taking a short break, but will be back in November with interesting talks by Daniel Tigard (University of San Diego) on 16 November 6-7pm (title to be announced) and Ariel Dora Stern (Harvard Business School) on 7 December 12.30-1.30pm on "The Regulation of Medical AI: Policy Approaches, Data, and Innovation Incentives". Registration is possible here.
