Democracy Day 2026
“My Voice Counts – Experience, Shape, and
Celebrate Democracy!”
Democracy Day is organized jointly by the Chair of Social Ethics at the University of Bonn, the Federal Student Conference (BSK), and the GermanDream educational initiative.
Following a successful first Democracy Day with around 200 students in Cologne, the program is now being further developed and implemented at additional locations. In the long term, the goal is to create a nationwide network that connects young people, schools, academia, culture, and civil society.
What is it all about?
Democracy thrives when young people make their voices heard, help shape social developments, and experience that their perspectives are being listened to. This is exactly where Democracy Days come in: Our goal is not only to teach democracy as a subject in the classroom, but to make it a tangible and active practice that students can experience and shape.
Through workshops, discussion forums, creative projects, and encounters with figures from the worlds of culture, academia, media, and civil society, students have the opportunity to share their perspectives, ask questions, participate in discussions, and develop their own ideas.
