Narrativität und Performanz der Demut. Metatheoretische Reflexionen zur Funktionalität anhand einer Relecture Albrecht Ritschls, (DoMo 37) Tübingen 2021.

How can theology think functionally in inter- and transdisciplinary discourse without reducing thoughts of God and experiences of faith to functions? This question is elaborated using methods of narrativity and performance theory on the basis of two sources of material: Firstly, rereading the theology of Albrecht Ritschl (1822-1889) shows to what extent this is shaped by ecclesiological-practical considerations regarding the functional effectiveness of the narrative of the Kingdom of God for the "congregation". Using the shifts applied in material dogmatics, humility, patience and prayer are focused on as individual practices of Divine Providence in collective contexts. Secondly, humility is examined as the Christian religious practice that can be used to address the unavailability of performance experiences in situational performances associated with functional expectations. This is aimed at a differentiated consideration of functionally a-functional phenomena in church, piety and worship.
