Raimundo César Barreto, Jr., PhD '06, ist Associate Professor of World Christianity am Princeton Theological Seminary, wo er auch seinen PhD in Religion and Society gemacht hat. Darüber hinaus hat er einen Abschluss der Mercer University und des Seminário Teológico Batista do Norte do Brasil. Vor seiner Lehrtätigkeit am Princeton Seminary unterrichtete Prof. Barreto in seiner Heimat Brasilien und war Director of Freedom and Justice bei der Baptist World Alliance (BWA).
Er engagiert sich in ökumenischer und interreligiöser Arbeit, insbesondere im Rahmen der American Baptist Churches USA, der Baptist World Alliance, der National Council of Churches USA sowie der World Council of Churches. Seine Lehre und Forschung ist interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und bezieht World Christianity, Ecumenical and Intercultural Studies, Latin American/Latinx Religion und Liberation and Decolonial Theologies ein.
Kürzlich erschienene Arbeiten von Prof. Barreto sind Protesting Poverty: Protestants, Social Ethics and the Poor in Brazil (Baylor University Press, 2023), die mitherausgegebenen Bände World Christianity, Urbanization, and Identity (Fortress Press, 2021) und Migration and Public Discourse in World Christianity (Fortress Press, 2019), sowie Decolonial Christianities: Latin American and Latinx Perspectives (Palgrave/McMillan, 2019). Zudem ist Prof. Barreto Herausgeber der Reihe World Christianity and Public Religion (Fortress Press) und Mitherausgeber des Journal of World Christianity.
Prof. Barreto ist Mitorganisator der Princeton World Christianity Conference. Derzeit finalisiert er seine Monographie Base Ecumenism: A Latin American Contribution to Ecumenical Praxis and Theology (Fortress Press) und plant ein Buch zu Christians in the City of São Paulo: The Shaping of World Christianity in a Brazilian Megacity (Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.).
